I think when most people heard this the first thing that popped into their mind was the “idiot”. And it did nothing but cost him votes. Should have said he wanted to “colonize” Detroit.

Santorum, he gets a lot of blame for taking pork back to Pennsylvania, but that is not a train you can just off of. His constituents expected the pork because that was what they had been getting for years. People need weaned off that shit.

That’s a long range and more important goal than simply the capture of power in DC one more time. The appeal of Paul’s message will grow even as over-reaching will force the adoption of some of his policies although no one will ever admit this. It may be wishful thinking on my part, but I don’t think the US rulers or any government can micro-manage the destinies of every last person on the planet. (Gingrich wants to extend this even to the moon.) Obama, Romney, Gingrich and Santorum all want to lead in the same direction with very minor differences. Paul’s alternative may not ever win political power in any state. But then he is about decreasing and decentralizing political power, not about grabbing and exercising it.
