It’s official. Virgil Goode is in. From an e-mail from Gary Odom:

Virgil Goode for President
235 South Main Street
Rocky Mount, VA 24151

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 3:15 p.m., former Congressman Virgil Goode, Jr., will make an announcement at Federal Hall, 26 Wall Street, New York concerning the 2012 Presidential Race.

Goode is now a member of the National Executive Committee of the Constitution Party. Goode served in Congress from January 3, 1997 to January 3, 2009. Goode lost the closest United States House of Representatives race in the country in November, 2008. During his tenure in Congress, Goode was consistently among the lowest spenders of the Member’s Expense Allowance.

Editorial Comment: Recently there had been some rumors that Goode was getting cold feet since things had been relatively silent from his camp. I wonder if the rumor of cold feet had anything to do with the timing of this release, or if this date has been planned for a while.

It appears that Goode is going to run a heavily populist campaign. I think the choice of Wall Street to announce is probably intended to have some symbolic meaning.

I’ll keep looking. Goode voted for the Iraq War, for most of the domestic police state measures instituted in the name of the war on terror, and co-sponsored a resolution condemning Iran for its alleged pursuit of nuclear weapons. He’s a national security terror warrior hawk and Moslem baiter on the side. If I wanted to vote for one of those, the Republicans have sufficient to offer.

Kirt, I am preparing a series of articles about potential and declared CP candidates. As far as I can tell, the only other person with anything like an active campaign is Robby Wells, who unless he has changed is not a perfict fit with the CP. No modal CP candidates has so far stepped forward unless I’m missing something. If an outcry over Goode arises, as one did in 2008 over Keyes, then maybe someone will step forward.

You should consider going to the CP National Convention in Nashville in April.

I’d like to see Pastor Baldwin run again. As to the CP national convention, I have already as many trips scheduled this year as I can afford. In April, I’ll be going to the wedding of one of my nephews. Thanks for the invite though.

This is looking like Alan Keyes all over again. Virgil Goode voted for the Patriot Act and the Iraqi War as well as the Surge. In fact Mark Seinberg of the Alan Keyes faction of the American Independent Party claims that he might put Virgil Goode on the ballot at least during the primary.
