It seems that the Raimondo-Hawkins debate has extened to cyberspace, which is a continuation of the final debate at the paleoconservative JRC this last weekend in DC, where the resolution was whether we should pull out of Iraq immediately.
William R. Hawkins recently penned this denunciation of Justin Raimondo at the neocon FrontPageMag, to which Raimondo replies, and about which Scott P. Richert reports. I think it is rather distasteful that Hawkins would choose FrontPageMag as his venue to denounce Raimondo. They have a disagreement, but why get the neocons involved? It’s like inviting hyenas to a family argument over who’s going to get the last pork chop on the plate. Hawkins criticizes Kirkpatrick Sale’s Marxist origins – and I disagree with almost all of Sale’s left-wing denunciations of Western Civilization; still, Hawkins fails to realize that almost all the neocons, like FrontPageMag’s David Horowitz, are all former Trotskyites, and still preach a Wilsonian version of Trotskyitism in the form of spreading global democracy.Â
I can see Hawkin’s worries about siding with Leftists over opposition to the war. Paul Gottfried has made this point numerous times. Although many on the Left and Old Right are opposed to the war, we oppose it on different grounds, and disagree on most everything else. Most of those who oppose the war on the Left are not non-interventionsts, as many of them are eager to start a new war in Darfur; and they will always choose to shadowbox with neocons than actually engage the Old Right.
Regardless, Hawkins takes it too far. And although I agreed with the “let’s pull out immediately crowd,” I did not agree with everything that Raimondo said. I think that he underestimates the real dangers of Islam and the real threat it poses to Western Civilization, something about which Scott Richert has recently written. One only has to visit areas of London, Paris or Hamburg to realize the real dangers that we are facing. And although many of us do not live in the UK or Europe, if Europe does fall, Western Civilization is doomed. It is also interesting to note that the neocons care nothing for Europe. Unlike the rest of us, they seem to have no ancestral attachment to it, and actually seem to be cheering its demise.
And Raimondo, an open-borders libertarian, while cheering for the Old Right, fails to realize that the single greatest accomplishment of the Old Right was the Immigration Act of 1924. Many of the problems that the West faces regarding terrorism are in fact immigration problems. A policy of complete disengagement is the best course. We should (1) completely withdraw from the Middle East; (2) end all immigration from the Third World; (3) begin repatriating Muslims living in the West back to their home countries; and (4) end all foreign aid to Middle Eastern countries, including Israel.
