Criticism of Ron Unz’s new essay on IQ and race
Walter

Posted under Race

As part of Ron Unz’s “ongoing love letter to Hispanics” (as commenters have characterized his essay), Unz recently has cherry picked data from various IQ sources to attempt to disprove a hard hereditarian basis for IQ and race – and seems to make some of the same cherry-picking errors as the Unz we’ve all come to know and expect.  Of course, the gist and underlying motive of Unz’s essay is to send the message not to worry about mestizo immigration.  After all, shorter Unz: IQ is flexible and it’s probably only matter of a few years before Mexicans revolutionize the field of physics and the state-of-the-art Mexican space agency is landing on Mars.

Some criticisms of Unz’s piece:

Peter Frost: “Ron Unz on Race, IQ, and Wealth

Occidentalist: “No Mexican Flynn Effect (or Ron Unz is no longer credible)

David Sanders: “Has Ron Unz Refuted “Hard Hereditarianism”?

Peter Frost: “More on Race, IQ, and Wealth

Richard Lynn:  “IQ and the Wealth of Nations: Richard Lynn Replies to Ron Unz

Helmuth Nyborg: “Helmuth Nyborg’s Reply to Ron Unz

It’s sad that Buchanan is no longer at the American Conservative and that the new magazine under Unz’s direction has declared war upon the historic American nation. Won’t be renewing my subscription.

“Buchanan is no longer at the American Conservative”???!!!

Not so. They carry his articles regularly. I don’t think they miss even one.

Kirt, they run his syndicated columns, but he is no longer officially affiliated with the magazine.

The problem with print publications like TAC is that they aren’t economically viable, so they have to rely on a big patron or patrons. And he who pays the bills calls the tune. What we need is more really rich paleos, and I say that only half kidding.

Both Buchanan and Taki left TAC in 2007. Thereafter Ron Unz bought it.

Red, I’m not sure what constitutes official affiliation, but they not only run Buchanan’s columns, he’s still listed on the masthead as one of the founders. I suppose what you and Brian mean is that he is no longer part owner or editor or publisher or whatever his former position was. Unz is the current owner, but is published in TAC only very occasionally, far less frequently than Buchanan. Yet the would-be enforcers of political correctness apparently object that he is published at all – even in the publication that he owns.

BTW to RJ – Taki is still listed on the TAC masthead and his articles too are still published in TAC, also more frequently than those of Unz.

All the paleos should just ditch TAC and join Chronicles. Unz is one of the less bad types there, McConnell is probably the worst. I think even professed liberal Millman is more conservative.
