Pat Toomy is not jumping on the Huckabee bandwagon. Toomy is the president of the Club for Growth.
Notice with the recent Huckabee boomlet that the claws are now coming out. The claws are much deserved because Huck is no conservative, but this smells to me like a concerted effort. Who is Huck a threat to assuming their motives are not really the preservation of conservatism?
Of course the Club for Growth is not really the Club for Growth. They are the Club for War. If they were really the Club for Growth they would be supporting Ron Paul. But they haved dissed Ron Paul and actually are supporting challengers to anti-war Republicans.

I think it is becoming clear to a lot of people that Club for Growth has an ax to grind with Huckabee and Paul.
Huckabee and Paul and not swayed by big money and are not in the Republican “elite”. I think it is more about maintaining a president that is from the Republican elite that will be influenced by big money then it is that Huckabee is not conservative. Paul on the otherhand is libertarian which is a whole other story.

Phyllis Schlafly, whom I respect has brought up some real concerns regarding the Huckster. And I limit the credability of the “Club For Growth”, and ignore them for the most part…….There were NEVER any plans for lower tier candidates to even stay in the race this long, and the cry, “But what if Hillary get’s elected!!!” was intended to overwhelm conservatives beyond their ability to think…….Huck has also cranked up his war chant of “If we broke it we must fix it” song to impress the neocon war party! Because he missed the “Big War Dance” at Herzliya in January 2007, I now watch his donations to see if the Likud Party comes to him?…………A VP promiss may actualy surface. Perhaps the strategy of “Compassionate Capitalism” is to replace the failed strategy of compassionate conservative?

I think, despite Toomy’s reservations, the neocons are giving Hucakbee so much press because they want him to be Giuliani’s VP — to make Giuliani more palatable for the religious.

I actually think the GOP insiders and neocons are worried about Huck. He is not an insider, not one of them, and they are worried that they may not be able to control him.

He may be an outsider, but he’s a consistent globalist (despite his recent rhetoric about free trade), pro-Israel fanatic, and pro-war in Iraq.
I searched the recent posts at The Corner, and 6 are positive or neutral on Huckabee, while 3 are negative.
His biggest critic over there is Ramesh “Last Chance Armada” Ponnuru because of Huckabee’s criticism (insincere I think) on free trade.
Rich Lowry seems to be his biggest defender.
