It’s 0840 EST 21 Dec 12, and we’re still here. At what time can we officially call this whole Mayan end of the world thing bunk?

    Retroactively, back to the time several years ago when whatever wacko first brought it up.

    Merry CHRISTmas, Red! … and also to all other CHT contributors, readers, commenters, et al. …

    Red,

    True story: I am just back from the local town and drinking establishment–a brew pub. Power was lost in town; traffic lights were out, wind and rain whipping.

    But it was happy hour, and the small lot of strangers and friends who gathered figured it was a good place to be if maybe things were going to be all over anyway. There was a certain Christmas cheer, and a sympathy for staff who are missing out on what would have been a big night on the tips front. It was cash only, and as it got dark, with just the soft light of back-up power, it was just right for a nasty week up New England way.

    Augustinian;

    One of the more recent popularize-rs, was Harvard’s Terence McKenna who was part of the composite lead character in “The Serpent and the Rainbow” which is worth viewing as a critique on Big Pharma and other issues…
