NRA Releases List of Gun Control Supporters

Posted under Culture & Gun Control & Media & Movies

The way the list is organized here is a bit confusing, but it seems to include organizations, celebrities and then other influential people who aren’t celebrities. I haven’t had time to go through the whole thing since it is long, but it’s interesting (and discouraging) how many of the organizations are medically related. A while back there was an effort to make guns a “public health” issue. I wonder if this list reflects some of that activity. Also, I’m disappointed to see Sylvester Stallone’s name on the list. Not only does it demonstrate hypocrisy (Did anyone see Rambo IV [not actually called that] which Stallone co-wrote, directed and starred in?), but Stallone is often cited as one of the few Republicans in Hollywood.

Update: Here is the list straight from the NRA that makes the divisions in the list more clear. The list is also not new. It is from Aug 10. The attached article is new, and it popped up on my Facebook today.

Michael Gross was a funny one given his character on Tremors.

Not sure what we can do with this info though.

“Not sure what we can do with this info though.”

    Attempt to shame them.

I’m not sure how useful this list is without further specifics. The article states that the people named have either financed or supported some sort of gun control or specific legislation. Other than all-out anarchists, is there anyone who does not support at least some sort of gun control? I can’t think of a single gun owner or concealed carrier of my acquaintance who does not think some regulations are good, although the specific regulations supported may vary widely.

With regard to Stallone, I don’t regard it as hypocritical that he may support different things in his personal life than he does in his movies. That is an inevitable side effect of the acting profession. But in any event, what has he actually said or done? From what I’ve read, he’s a prominent member of the Beverly Hills Gun Club and according to some sources is (or was) the owner of the club.

How would we shame them? What could I say or do that would make even the littlest celebrity on that list take any notice?

Matt it has to start somewhere.

    We are the Little Folk—we!
Too little to love or to hate.
Leave us alone and you’ll see
How we can drag down the State!
We are the worm in the wood!
We are the rot at the root!
We are the taint in the blood!
We are the thorn in the foot!

    Mistletoe killing an oak—
    Rats gnawing cables in two—
Moths making holes in a cloak—
How they must love what they do!
    Yes—and we Little Folk too,
    We are busy as they—
Working our works out of view—
Watch, and you’ll see it some day!

Shame is probably not the best word. These Hollywood types live in a bubble and don’t interact much with us yahoos in flyover country. They likely see no problem endorsing gun control because as far as they are concerned all respectable people support gun control. We need to let them know that there is a huge segment of the country that doesn’t agree with them, and there is a price to be paid (in terms of blowback) for that support. Such as the backlash Piers Morgan has been made to feel. We aren’t going to change Piers Morgan’s mind, but we have let him know we are out here.

So, Red, are you going to make Stallone pay the price for his (unspecified) support of gun control by urging the boycott of his movies? I think he has a new one coming out in a few weeks.

Stallone went to work for the PATCON boys in Rambo II to rival Chuck Norris’s more guerrilla venture in the same subject matter, and then Stallone worked for the Globalists in Rambo III.

Stallone’s comments on gun control are quite dated and don’t believe he has made one recently, at least after Rambo IV.

Kirt, no I won’t boycot his movie because me doing that alone would be meaningless. The point would be more to make them feel the heat. Maybe their press agents need to get some letters. I would like to know what it is Stallone is alleged to have said or done.

    Red;

Stallone said some stupid things in 1998; dated quotes. He was still relying on the Man for work.

    Here’s what he said.

Assuming the quote is accurate, it’s about 23 or 24 years old and may just represent a reaction to an event of the moment, not a long held opinion, let alone anything which Stallone has ever acted on. I’m not defending the comment, but everyone makes dumb comments at times. With celebrities, the comments are quoted and remembered. For all I know, my barber, butcher, or dance instructor may favor gun confiscation or some level of control stricter than what I favor. If they bring it up in my presence, I’ll argue the point. Otherwise, why should I care?
