I only caught the end of the debate, but I got to see the question on the Confederate Battle Flag. Mitt Romney was the first to answer, and he was pathetically PC. He was clearly hostile to the flag. Sen. Thompson had the follow-up. He groveled as well. Hopefully the video will get posted on YouTube, but he basically said that the Battle Flag should not be flown publicly/officially.
And this PC butt-kisser is trying to use his “Southerness” to his advantage. It might help him if his “Southerness” actually affected how he thinks.
Feel free to post any other debate commentary below.

Thompson can say goodbye to winning in South Carolina.

Is it my imagination, or does the “Huckster” and Bill Clinton sound like they graduated from the same “speech coach”?..Their very style of rendering an answer, (Wraped in emotional logic) is very very much alike.
It has become annoying , watching very few candidates have a debate while the other candidates are mostly observers.
John McCain’s attitude of, “I know more about war and the military than ANYBODY in the galaxy!”……..Is becoming obnoxious.
As for Guiliani and Romney…………….I would suggest dueling pistols at 30 paces. Regarding the exchange about “Sanctuary cities vs Sanctuary Mansion”……………………….Tancredo had to have been busting a gut laughing?
And other candidates claiming they would eliminate the IRS?……..When did that start?………For those Elitist that have said that the lower tier candidates were an anoyance to the primary season, it is most obvious how much the upper tier candidates are starting to move their reteric in the direction of Paul/Tancredo/Hunter platforms.

30 paces?!! That much to far. Most likely neither of them would be hit. Certainly neither is a marksman.

Romney and Guliani were in full Yankee mode tonight.
Is Thompson from East Tennessee? If so then he’s not going to have much sympathy for the Stars and Bars )remember that East Tennessee was Union country during the war). He’s certainly not running as the “Southern” candidate.

Filmer,
I would have loved to see Ron Paul getting to answer this one. Make sure you see that debate sometimes (there will be several encore presentations). Here is what I wrote to Lew Rockwell about the debate:
“I sat through the whole CNN Youtube Republican debate today and some of the commentary (yeah, it was tough). The video element didn’t seem to add a whole lot to distinguish this debate. It was the same kind of debate garbage I’ve seen recently — Romney and Giuliani getting way too much time to argue over which one has made less horrific decisions in their pasts, the statist Huckabee being the media darling and getting to answer everything, Dr. Paul getting far too few opportunities to answer on even the most obvious issues (the dollar, the Muslim world, etc.), Fred Thompson being boring, and someone inevitably calling Dr. Ron Paul a collaborator with dictators before the whole fiasco is done. And not one damned hat tip to freedom unless it was a word coming out of Ron Paul’s mouth.”

It is very disheartening to say the least. I am of the mindset that Thompson certainly is one of those Union Tennessee decendants..obviously. What riles me the more about this is..of those of us who’s family never owned slaves, but owned farms..and dropped their
tools and joined in the fight to repel the invasion in 1861, we have been asked all these years to forgive and forget. To live with the defeat of
raping of Southern women by yankee troops, the burning and pillaging, etc..and learn to live as an American. I faithfully joined the military right out of high school.
I took the oath. Now, I am supposed to negate the blood from where I came ?? Because of a fabrication of racist implication in regards to the
Flags of our Fathers ??
I think not.
Romney’s dad was born in Mexico..he should return to his roots.

One telling moment I saw was when Ron Paul ended an answer by saying we should put America First and some boos rang out from the crowd. It show a lot about the Republican Party when someone says put America First and receives boos.

I don’t know about you boys, but when a politician is right on the Flag I know he is almost sure to be right on just about everything else. And more than that, when he is willing to take the heat from the pc bigots I know he has a pair. The Confederate Flag is one of those litmus test issues for me as far as my going all out for a candidate.

Fred really blew that one, I have to admit, and as a contributor. What happened to Federalism – the issue HE was supposed to bring to the table. If he really believed it, he would’ve used it as an example of how our Federal Overlords (and the useful idiots) seem compelled to stick their big noses in what is clearly a state-by-state issue.

I don’t mind the flag issue so much, I’ve been told it’s racist and my ancestors evil since elementary school, but Ron Paul is the only candidate who defends the Confederacy. Well, Paul and Donnie Kennedy of course.
I’ve got a Bonnie Blue on my [*cough* Japanese] car though to be sure.
