Paul does a decent job of defending his statement about Lincoln.
Guest host David Shuster is an obvious obnoxious idiot, but what amazes me is that he is making our point. Shuster is very clear that Lincoln went to war to “save” the Union and he wants Paul to concede that? Is he a complete idiot? That is what Ron Paul is arguing. It is shameful that realizing 620,000 died to “save” the Union doesn’t so disgust people that it settles the argument itself. But many people who fancy themnselves patriots have so mythologized the modern nation state that they think that is OK, a price worth paying.
Lincoln did not “save” the constitutional Republic that the Founders intended. He destroyed that Union. Instead he created a modern centralized Leviathan state. Ron Paul could probably do a better job of making this point.
Addendum: Paul also needs to make the point that the South did not “start” the War contrary to Shuster’s rantings. South Carolina had peacefully and legally seceded. Lincoln was attempting to reprovison a fort in what was by then foreign territory. This was an act of war, and the South had every right to respond. It was, however, a brilliant PR move for Lincoln who needed the South to appear to be the aggressors because many in the North did not favor war to prevent secession. It is a PR stunt that is still working on illiterates like Shuster even today.

Ignorant Northeastern Citizens are so intrenched in “Universalism” and Unity, that they have no concept that their beliefs would have committed them to be “Loyalists” committed to the “Union Jack” and the Queen in 1776!……………..They NEVER understood liberty, and would follow any flag waved in front of them. Their decendants are the same idiots that believe “Imperialism” is a Grand and Honorable Adventure!………………States Rights is “Greek” to them, as all must comply to a “Universal Code” of acceptance.

Wow, Paul seemed prepared for this battle. He nailed Shuster with Lincoln’s opposing the Amendment for abolishing slavery.
I like your suggestions as well Red, hopefully they’ll get back to his campaign. This election battle is really heating up, and Paul seems ready to cook. I really liked his handling of this debate.

Yes, and a great position to take in the South going into Super Tuesday. Paul is as crazy as a fox. His distractors cannot see this. Paul introduced or was introduced to the topic of the Civil War on by Bill Mahr back in May timeframe. The money boys grossly under estimate Paul. He has bulit a network to rival any campaign on the meetups. He has essentially built a 50 state base. I don’t know much about Iowa, which he’ll need a good bounce out of. His distractors can take comfort that he’s not campaigning much after Christmas. This in my opinion will be his undoing. But the guy’s as crazy as a fox.
