Posted under Alan Keyes & Conservatism & Constitution Party & Election 2008
From what I am picking up from Internet chatter, one of the reasons Keyes may get the CP nomination is because the other candidates can’t run for various reasons. So we need to put our heads together and brainstorm some possible alternatives to Keyes. Here are a few that I have seen floated before.
Doug Phillips – Vision Forum, Howard’s son
John Eidsmoe – constitutional scholar
Walter “Donnie” Kennedy – pro-South author, formed an exploratory committee for seeking the GOP nomination
Pastor Butch Paugh – patriot radio personality, already a candidate for WV Governor
Additions? Comments? Discussion? We desperately need a candidate.

Id oppose Kennedy or Paugh for President, though id support them for lower offices.

LTG,
Nice website!
But yeah, page…not found.

Trent, Kennedy would be nearly perfect. He would establish the party as an authentic paleo party, just like Keyes will establish it as a neo party.
Is Paugh a conspiracy theorist? If so, that is a problem. But I would support a conspiracy theorist long before I would support a “Lincoln was great” theorist.

Either Kennedy or Paugh would be great. Paugh has some really good YouTube videos. Everyone should watch them.
I wouldn’t vote for Keyes if you paid me.

Maybe Tom Millican would consider running for the Constitution Party nomination. Lord knows he won’t achieve ballot status in many states as an independent.
Patriot Joe on 28 Mar 2008 at 1:39 am #
What about Mark Dankof? He is not a neocon, and he has a radio following. He has been a Constitution Party state candidate in the past.

Maybe someone could talk Peroutka into running again?
Patroon on 28 Mar 2008 at 2:45 am #
If Donnie Kennedy wants to throw his hat in, I think he would be a great choice.
What is this internet chatter you’re hearing Red and where’s it coming from? Are they people well connected to the party leadership or just Keyes supporters blowing smoke? What are Judge Moore’s true intentions? He’s been on a list of CP candidates for a long time. He hasn’t asked to be taken off or has asked for the delegates to vote for someone else. I don’t think we should be saying who’s in or out unless we hear it directly from them.
RedPhillips on 28 Mar 2008 at 3:00 am #
Patroon, I am going by what I have read at Third Party Watch and at the Keyes’ discussion board. Not from what Keyes’ supporters say. Most of them seem to be largely clueless about CP dynamics.

I thought the Conservative Heritage blog readers might be a bit more at home with it since it’s what the the Conservative Heritage blog links to under its “conservative resources.”

Trent, what about Devvy Kidd?

Kennedy and Paugh will both cement the idea that our party is racist or neo-confederate. Keyes dispels both. Not that im some sort of lincoln worshipper, but im no neo-confederate either.
“Trent, what about Devvy Kidd?”
Devvy ran for Congress twice in CA. She got VERY meager showings both times and does not seem interested in running for anything anymore. Like Paugh, she is also a conspiracy theorist.

So, what is needed is a politician who promises all of the popular things and promises to fight against all of the unpopular things.
And who smiles pretty for the camera
—
I’m unfamiliar with Paugh, but he couldn’t be worse than the GOP/neocon conspiracy theorists (parody):
Millican will get my humble vote if the CP can’t choose someone halfway right wing. Moore or Baldwin would be great though.
RedPhillips on 28 Mar 2008 at 12:52 pm #
Trent, if people say we are “racist” we respond by saying “No we are not.” We must fight political correctness, not give into it.
And what do you think neo-Confederate means? What is bad about it?
Kennedy would be good precisely because he would establish where the party stands on Lincoln. That would be an in-ya-face to the PC crowd that would be just glorious.
Weaver on 28 Mar 2008 at 3:08 pm #
The only bad thing about secession, as you know, is that it might divide conservatives. NonSoutherners might be more disgusted by Kennedy than McCain and either stay home or vote McCain… And such could transform the CP into a mostly regional party.
Making secession more popular and acceptable in the US might be a good thing though, since the US seems destined for Balkanisation anyway. It’s tough to predict the future…

there are no conspiracies in the job outsourced,
hollow economic, debt encumbered, dollar debased, third-world inundated, militarily overstreched, mexamerican, bill of rights bashed, police state
impending, multi-cultural, global utopia…
check out “news with views,” “the american nationalist union,” or even the “the john birch society” for starters…
paul would have been ok, balwin has insight

is eloquent (but a creature of the beltway),
the late sam francis was an even more eloquent

I thank those who have mentioned my name as a possible nominee for the CP however, I cannot accept a CP nomination if it were offered. I am fully convinced and committed to the road I have taken. I believe with all my heart that America can only be retrieved from the brink of bankruptcy that she is teetering on by an independent president.
An independent president would take a mandate from the people to the oval office that is not colored by the red or blue jerseys. An independent president would arrive at the oval office because of his plan as presented to the people. His election would signal the congress that his plan is what the voters wanted.
Our beloved country finds itself in a situation where it has never been before. It is time to forget about political parties and think about saving America. It is time to take back America from those who started the quest for world domination on June 2, 1877 at the formation of the “Round Table†in England and moved to America in 1913 later forming the Council on Foreign Relation; the CFR.
Through the tentacles of the CFR that reaches into the highest offices in politics, media, finance, education and business they have taken America systematically down the road toward the formation of the North American Union and the loss of our sovereignty. It is time for us, those that care about the future of America as America to summon up the courage to elect an independent candidate as the people’s president.
With the Constitution as my shield and legislation as my sword I will wage the battle of all battles to bring America back from the brink of bankruptcy that she faces. I will work to turn America back into that “island in the sky†that she once was. Though America was duped into the two world wars it proved that we can out produce any nation in the world. I will bring all of the manufacturing jobs back to America. I will create an atmosphere in America that will be a vacuum for capital.
230 years ago our forefather took musket and ball and challenged the most successful military in the world at that time. They put their lives on the line for you and I. Can we not do less? Can we not come together to form another revolutionary army to defeat those who wish to see America destroyed financially?
Less than 30 percent of the colonist believed and took part in the American uprising. As John Adams said, “…you only need to light the fires in a few minds.â€
On April 20th, I will begin my public campaign in the state that was hardest hit by NAFTA, Ohio. From that date forward I will begin to take the fight to the other nominees.
You are invited to participate.
RedPhillips on 29 Mar 2008 at 3:08 am #
Mr. Millican, the issue is ballot access. Without big money to pay professional signature collectors, it is very hard for an independent to get on a lot of ballots.

Why not Ron Paul as the CP Nominee?
Weaver on 29 Mar 2008 at 4:15 pm #
I don’t think Paul is willing to run third party at this time. The CP would love to have him I’m sure.

As promised, I have given my take on the Keyes defeat in Kansas City to Al Bawaba, and discussed the situation on my radio show this morning for the Republic Broadcasting Network. It may be accessed at http://www.republicbroadcasting.org by going to Show Archives and then to “Mark Dankof’s America” for April 27th, 2008.
Keyes’ defeat by Chuck Baldwin at the national convention of the Constitution Party this weekend reaffirms that the Constitution Party is an America First/paleoconservative party, not a neo-conservative entity in support of Bush’s War for Empire and Israel.
