Our friend Clark Stooksbury is now posting at TAC and wonderful post about how some (older) conservatives are critizing other (younger) conservatives for wishing McCain and the Republicans’ demise in order light out for the territories and evacuate D.C. for the hinterlands i.e The Wilderness.
Well, as paleos, since we’ve born, reared and lived out whole lives in the wilderness, I guess all one can say is: Welcome and enjoy your stay. Hopefully you might learn something out here and hopefully you can take us with you when you go back, presumably if we’re not all retired or dead by then. The air is fresh and clean, but it does get pretty dark around here so bring plenty of matches for the campfires we can all huddle around as comrades.
Larison has a good post on the The Wilderness as well, reminding us that even though Republicans and establishment conservatives may very well be in a theoretical “wilderness” as far as being out of power, their offices are going to still right down the street from Capitiol Hill and The White House. Maybe if they really wanted to be in the “wilderness” they would relcoate to their home towns or in some Midwestern or Southern town like the Rockford Institute for example.

Yeah, I’ve noticed already that most of you aren’t city dwellers (Bowling Green, Kentucky isn’t exactly a big city either, but it’s far from rural, and you bet we have plenty of scene-chasing teenagers, bass-cranked rap music blaring out of cars, and crime). Sorry, guys, but when you’re an immigrant whose family moved ahead and prospered massively by virtue of changing their location in the world, the more esoteric features of the Paleo way are none too palatable.
The Ludwig von Mises Institute, by the way, is located in the small Southern city of Auburn, Alabama, far outside the Beltway and in the heart of Secession country. This is intentional. All good research institutes should do this.

“The Fear Of The Unknown” is a powerful FEAR.
But I suscribe to the theory that Fear stands for “False Evidence Appearing Real”…………I also believe that “A man with experience is never at the mercy of a man with a theory.”
Sometimes you have to allow people to fail inorder to get their attention. The GOP deserves to fail as they no longer listen to their citizens nor their constitutional oath! They have to see that their way will NOT work with conservatives. And conservatives have to prove to them that their “Fear Tactics” of “BUT WHAT IF HILLARY/OBAMA GET’S ELECTED!!!!” is a bit worn out.
I watched JFK get his brains blown out in 5th grade “Current Events” on television. I saw the end of segregation on a day to day basis. And I watched Allen Sheppard replace the monkey in the first Mercury Capsule in space………………………Change is inevitable. But, Conservatives can NOT move forward with NEOCON/JACOBINS driving the boat!!! Obama will be one term and then out.
We need to focus on PURGING the NEOCON/JACOBINS while they are hiding in the cloakrooms of Congress!

I’m not sure what the “wilderness” means. Is D.C. thought to be the Mecca of mainstream conservatives?
