I thought he was a shoo-in for Best Actor. He deserved it. But Sean Penn for Milk? Was this a case of Academy snobbery and/or leftism? Giving the Oscar to someone sympathetically portraying a homosexual?

From what I’ve read, Rourke stopped his angle with Chris Jericho because it, according to his agents, would give him a better chance at winning the Oscar, and then he still gets screwed. It’s still a possibility he could be at Wrestlemania in some capacity, possibly wrestling Jericho.

Rourke was screwed because the Academy hates “low brow” things like wrestling, and loves “high brow things” like mediocre gay politicians.
I’m far more liberal on social issues than the average reader of this site, but this is definitely a case of political voting for a non-political award.

The Wrestler was a rather average movie and so was Rourke’s performance.

“all the world’s a stage”…”pro-wrestling”
is basically theatric, while “homosexuality” in both military showers, politics, and the priesthood warrants a few words of caution…back to my discount roddy piper video (not quite as dramatic as the last jesse ventura one), but still entertaining…
mickey rourke can be a quite interesting character actor
