On the news tonight, I heard a report about the Republican Governor of Louisiana, Piyush Jindal (aka “Bobby” Jindal), moaning and whining over JOP Keith Bardwell’s “denying” a marriage license to an interracial couple. For the record, Bardwell did not “deny” anything; he merely recused himself from the process and another judge married them. It’s commonplace for justices to recuse themselves (especially when they feel they have a conflict of interest). In this case, the media’s hysteria is attributable to the fact that Bardwell’s criterion for recusal conflicts with the Procrustean strictures of political correctness. Bardwell’s criterion apparently also differs from Jindall’s, who, in all his talk of “civil rights,” sounds more like MLK than a sensible conservative.

I live in Louisiana and can assure you that Jindal is just another Bush. In other words a liberal who in masked by conservative clothing. He found out early that all he had to do was say he was against abortion and over night he is a conservative. I truly wish that conservatives would get off that concern and look at the overall political views of a person. In this case, Jindal is giving off warnings with his work on health care. He sounds very much like Obama. As to Louisiana, he has created significant problems for patients as he has created a data bank that tracks your prescription records. This means that if you try to get a narcotic from another doctor other than your primary, you are automatically assumed to be “doctor shopping”. The problem is that if I see a patient in the office and they need a narcotic, I have to send them to their primary rathar than relieving their pain or problem at that moment. That means the patient must arrange a second appointment with their primary, this could be days later. Wait in their waiting room, which I find horrible. And beg for the prescription. My attitude after 40 years as a physician is to allow people to buy whatever they desire at the drug store without a prescription and get the government out of our lives. If we want an addiction or to ruin our health, that is our problem and no one else.

Reply: Finally, someone who recalls that adults are supposed to be responsible for their own care and nurture, not become an appendage of the nanny state.
What's Up With That? on 20 Oct 2009 at 9:56 pm #
In my experience, Indian families are some of the most likely to expect their children to marry fellow Indians. Some still arrange marriages. I wonder if Piyush thinks that is racist? Or are Indians allowed to want their kids to marry fellow Indians, but whites are evil if they think whites should marry other whites. An Indian I work with called Jindal a coconut, which is apparently the Indian equivalent of an Oreo. Brown on the outside but white on the inside. Is it OK for Indians to think as Indians, but not OK for whites to think as whites? I say, “What’s up with that?”
