This is an adjustment from the original prediction:
The estimated time when whites will no longer make up the majority of Americans has been pushed back eight years — to 2050 — because the recession and stricter immigration policies have slowed the flow of foreigners into the U.S.
Census Bureau projections released Wednesday update last year’s prediction that white children would become a minority in 2023 and the overall white population would follow in 2042. The earlier estimate did not take into account a drop in the number of people moving into the U.S. because of the economic crisis and the immigration policies imposed after the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.
And that suggests another idea, best expressed by an English gentleman in 1843:
The Spirit stood among the graves, and pointed down to One. He advanced towards it trembling. The Phantom was exactly as it had been, but he dreaded that he saw new meaning in its solemn shape.

“Men’s courses will foreshadow certain ends, to which, if persevered in, they must lead,” said Scrooge. “But if the courses be departed from, the ends will change. Say it is thus with what you show me.”
The Spirit was immovable as ever.
Scrooge crept towards it, trembling as he went; and following the finger, read upon the stone of the neglected grave his own name, EBENEZER SCROOGE.

To which I reply: Sure, but what on earth does any poor white have anything to share with a well-off person like yourself?
Glad to see race relations improving. Perhaps when the 60s types like Kane pass away maybe they will.

Nah, racial demagogues seem to be growing. Asians now have their own little advocacy group… I guess we’ll see how things are with the election in 2012.
Blacks and Mexicans would have to accept the high incarceration rates, broken families, poverty, etc. are their own fault. They’ll never accept that.
And different groups vying for power in America will manipulate ethnic divides, just as was done during the Civil Rights movement. It’s a potent force…

I cannot say, in polite company, that I believe this to be a bad thing up here in Massachusetts without causing people to recoil in horror and incredulity. It is taken for granted here by most people that opposing this process is a sign of evil, Hitleresque white supremacism.
