War on Christmas – Israeli style

Looks like the War on Christmas has spread across the ocean, this time to Israel:

“NAZARETH ILLIT, Israel (AFP) – The mayor of a Jewish suburb of Nazareth sparked outrage on Wednesday after refusing to allow Christmas trees to be placed in town squares, calling them provocative.

Predominantly Jewish Nazareth Illit, or Upper Nazareth, is adjacent to Nazareth, where Jesus is said to have spent much of his life. It has a sizable Arab Christian minority, as does mostly Muslim Nazareth itself.

“The request of the Arabs to put Christmas trees in the squares in the Arab quarter of Nazareth Illit is provocative,” Mayor Shimon Gapso told AFP.

“Nazareth Illit is a Jewish city and it will not happen — not this year and not next year, so long as I am a mayor,” he said of the northern Israeli town.”

So all you so called Zionist Christians, you John Hagees and Michelle Bachmann’s, you Dispensationalists and others who traveled on Israeli junkets, met with Netanyahu and excused Israeli treatment of Christians in the past, what do you say now and treatment of your Christian brothers by banning a symbol of Christmas?

Oh I forgot, if they don’t worship like you they’re not considered “Christians” in your eyes.

Well, as the Bible says, you reap what you sow. So when Christians are driven from the Holy Land, we’re also going to blame you, because said or did nothing when it happened.

    Excellent thoughts.

Your drawing the wrong conclusions here. I believe the mayor is doing this to shield the Christian community from the violence of radical islamosocialists in the region who hate Christians and Jews. He should be applauded for his efforts to shield the Christian Community from violence.

Most Americans don’t seem to realise Christians even live in the Middle East, or they believe Jews will guard them from the bad Muslims…

I’d like to see the Church of the Holy Sepulchre before something happens to it.

The care over the church is shared by no less then six denominations. The primary custodians are the Greek Orthodox, Armenian Apostolic and Roman catholic church, with lesser duties shared by Coptic, Ethiopian and Syriac Orthodox churches. The whole edifice is carefully parceled into sections, some being commonly shared while others belonging strictly to a particular sect. A set of complicated rules governs the transit rights of the other groups through each particular section on any given day, and especially during the holidays. Some of the sections of the church however still remain hotly disputed to this day.

Arguments and violent clashes are not uncommon. In November 2008 the internet was flooded with videos of a fistfight between Armenian and Greek monks in one such dispute. A small section of the roof of the church is disputed between the Copts and Ethiopians. At least one Coptic monk at any given time sits there on a chair placed on a particular spot to express this claim. On a hot summer day he moved his chair some 20cm more into the shade. This was interpreted as a hostile act and violation of status quo. Eleven were hospitalized after a fight resulting from this provocation.

This state of affairs makes any agreement about renovations or repairs on the edifice impossible. The church is in a state of decay as a result.

Is it provacative to Jews or to Muslims? Christians are moving to Israel and fleeing Muslim lands. Agence France Press dhimmis lies by omission and commission.

“Christians are moving to Israel and fleeing Muslim lands”???? So you’re saying, Ron, that Israel permits the immigration of Arab Christians into Israel? I’d sure like to see the documentation on that one. If true, there should be no problem with a “right of return” at least for Christian Palestinians.

I’ve recently read that Iraqi Christians have been fleeing in large numbers to Syria and Jordan due to an upsurge in the terror which has been directed against them since the US invasion established an Islamic government in Iraq.

    Kurt,

“So you’re saying, Ron, that Israel permits the immigration of Arab Christians into Israel? ”
Israel has also taken in thousands of Lebanese Christian refugees. And many of the “Palestinians” illegally living in Jerusalem are Christians who are fleeing the PA, to speak nothing of Hamas Gaza.

    Quite true.

Defense of the Zionist Powers of Tel Aviv was a bit of a stretch in the eighties and ninties, when only the BALANCE OF THE WORLD knew the truth, and Americans were being fed propoganda from both the MSM and “Pulpit Pimps” like John Haggee……..Now it’s pure comedy, as more Americans realize what a “RACIST STATE” Israel actually is…….And yes, even the worn out, totally overused buzzword of “Anti-Semite” has grown bored to not only the balance of the world, but American Citizens as well!

“Since When Was Anti-Semitism Rebranded As Anti-Racist?”

    http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/edwest/100068563/since-when-was-annti-semitism-rebranded-as-anti-racism/

America may be slow, but most are now figuring out that Israel is a racist State, and always has been……..Ha-Ha!…..And the MSM can’t hide hide the fact that other than the Marshall Islands, and Israel, noone even votes with America at the U.N. as they wait for America to wake up!

Ron, your links are a little short on hard numbers and specific data points. I don’t know how many “thousands” of Christian Lebanese refugees were admitted to Israel following the Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon and the collapse of the SLA, but I had heard that most of them returned when the widely predicted savage reprisals did not take place. And while Lebanon may be a Muslim land in the sense of having a Muslim majority, Christians hold most of the key high positions in the government and about half the Christians belong to the Aounist Free Patriotic Movement, which is allied to Hezbollah. Many Christian Lebanese who fled abroad during the Lebanon civil war have now returned. I know some of them myself. Recently Christians and Moslems in Lebanon collaborated to make the birthday of the Virgin Mary a national holiday in that country.

The other examples amount largely to Christians fleeing from one or another Israeli controlled territory to Israel proper and (per your own post) doing so illegally in terms of Israeli law. There has been some limited terrorism against Christians in Gaza, but I would think it more likely that Christians would flee Gaza because of the harsh Israeli blockade and fairly constant sniping and bombardment.

One of your links states that the number of Christians is declining in Syria and Jordan. I seriously doubt that since these countries along with Turkey are the destination of most Christian Iraqi refugees. In Syria, Christians hold many positions in the Ba’ath party and in the government and are often favored by the Alawite establishment to which the Assad family belongs. (The Alawites are considered heretics and “little Christians” by many Moslems because they incorporate many Christian practices and feasts into their eccentric interpretation of Islam.) It is possible that the percentage of Christians may be declining in those countries because of the vastly greater wave of Sunni Moslem refugees from Iraq – also victims of the US war.

A Jewish writer defined antisemitism as ” the foolish belief held by gentiles that Israel may be criticized just like any other country.”

Christians are persecuted in Israel by Jews.

Judeo-Christian Zionists ignore the obvious truth.

This is dishonest by these so called ” men of God.”

Jews were initially suspicious of their new found evangelical friends but to quote Bibi Netanyahu, ” They are scum but I’ll take their money.”
