Assuming our society fully embraced liberty and had a much smaller, more decentralized government, I would not think free trade a hazard. Do not conflate a statist train wreck like NAFTA with the genuine free trade that I or other freedom-loving Americans like Ron Paul support.
And yes, this is “that” AndrewT. The one who used to argue with Weaver a lot, especially about trade.
I was sort out of the political loop for a little while, and was disgusted enough by certain evil and/or autistic persons (cough… Captainchaos) trolling the heck out of the discussions that I left this site for good. Sigh…is this website ever going to get quality control?

The one who used to LOSE to Weaver! I remember you – fan of Hans-Hermann Hoppe and that aristocrat whose head was so full of languages he had no space remaining for proper political science.

The first guy to ask a question looks just like Chris Farley (about 8:30). Spooky.

Weaver,
Haha, damn that is funny.
I don’t put much stock in either of those two guys nowadays. Truth be told, I never really did in the first place; they just looked like such counter-intuitive and interesting specimens I couldn’t manage to take my eyes off them. My mind has settled down quite a bit since the days we used to argue (and yes, I mostly did lose), and I try to be more empirical and go with what works in the real world. Long story short, I am not a libertarian.

Bah, I didn’t really beat you I think. I just growled and shouted more loudly.
My mind has most certainly not settled down. If anything I’ve been moving further towards a radical, albeit one who tries to live in the real world as well. I’m not dangerous, haha.
Anyway, good to see you. CC still stops in occasionally. He had a good post on post-WWII German suffering which I respect.

I’ll post something on distributism sometime – maybe you’ll be here to attack me for a change, heh. I’d certainly be vulnerable there – much easier to attack than to defend.

Weaver,
To be honest I never really gave distributism a fair shake. Now that I’m over my absurdly naive “capitalism=freedom” phase, I would like to learn a lot more about it. I am attracted to the ideal of an organic, humane, holistic economics.
I’ll let you know if I add the Distributist Review to my list of RSS news feeds.
