John Edwards Indicted – An Interesting Question

Posted under "Birther" & Media

John Edwards has been indicted for actions related to his attempt to cover up a love child.

Consider this. If Edwards had won the election would he now be being indicted? If he won would people who claimed that Edwards had a secret love child be called “babyers?” Would they be dismissed as tin-foil hat wearing conspiracy kooks? Would the press look the other way instead of following up on leads and hostilely dismiss legitimate curiosity about the circumstances surrounding his relationship with Hunter?

How did we find out about the Edwards’ love child? The press did this novel thing and investigated suspicious circumstances, although much to the shame of the mainstream press, it was the National Enquirer that broke the story.

The indictment is nonsense. Somehow, when these pols arrange jobs for their mistresses that pay about the same, that is okay, but hard cash–well we draw the line and have a law?

The press knew about the problem, but they sat on it, as they need Edwards to hurt Hillary’s chances v. Obama, and the story was jobbed out.

What is interesting is that Team Obama is pulling a night of the long knives of sorts–certainly they could have stopped it getting this far.

If Edwards had anything real about him, he could flip this around and go on the offensive, but I suspect, he just wants the best deal he can get, even if he has to do a little time for show.

CB, unless the money from the donors was disguised as a campaign contribution and really wasn’t or the donors were misled, I don’t see the crime here either.

Edwards is fourth string and expendable!……..A lost idiot in the world of politics. Had he been Bill and Hillary Clinton in the White Water Scandal prior to the Presidential Election, he would have been salvaged as they were, from the story that “The Globe” had already uncovered, and the “Los Angeles Times” had supressed until after the election…………………….However, “Hairboy Edwards” is pure history, and soooooo pathetic, that even the democratic party now finds him an interuption at best!

Die, and try not to bleed on anybody important!

I’m inclined to remember a line from the excellent David Mamet film Spartan. A military man asks a secret service agent a question, and she answers with this:

“What do you mean how did we fake the DNA? We didn’t. We issued a press release.”

I suspect that the Birth Certificate is real, but it wouldn’t have had to be. Covering things up is easy.

If paying off a mistress to keep her hidden and her mouth shut is not a legitimate use of campaign money, I don’t know what would be. No one is either morally or legally obliged to reveal every truth about their private lives, but everyone is at least morally obliged not to lie and most of political campaigns simply consist of telling lies, not about the campaigner’s private life, but about what he has done, does, or plans to do in the public sphere.

When the RNC trains its campaign and political mangers it advises them in the event of a personal scandal to immediately admit it, dump all the bad news, apologize, and then try to move on.

If you look at Sen. Vitter or even Schwarzenegger recently you can see this tactic used.

The Dems on the other hand seem to have the tactic of cover it up, refuse to comment, lie, and make a total jackass out of yourself.

Clinton did this, Edwards did this, and now Weiner is doing it.

They just dig themselves in deeper.
