This is not good news as I hope Bloomberg runs. Assuming Ron Paul (or Tancredo) does not get the GOP nomination, then conservatives will need to look to an independent or third party candidate. Bloomberg, a liberal, is clearly not that candidate, but the more “serious” candidates there are in the race the more likely it will be that an alternative conservative candidate could emerge as a truly distinct option. From that standpoint, the more candidates the merrier.
The best scenario for a third party conservative to emerge would be if Rudy gets the GOP nomination.  Then you would potentially have three New York liberals running, Rudy, Hillary, and Bloomberg. Throw in a potential Nader run and you still have only liberals. (There are some redeeming aspects of Nader including his own personal lifestyle conservatism, but he is still a political progressive.) Who would people in flyover country vote for then?

Check out this political compass of the presidential primaries.
They mark the candidates on a political compass.

They explain that Left-right axis is economics and that Authoritarian-Libertarian axis is social/cultural.
And this is from a European prespective.
I think they have both Tancredo and Hunter (among others) in the wrong spots.
I think both Tancredo and Hunter are at the top (extreme Authoritarian) 100% Authoritarian on the Authoritarian-Libertarian axis, taking hard line stances on abortion, gay marriage, immigration (among other things); and I’d put Tancredo at 75%-80% on the Right on the Left-Right axis; Hunter at 65%-70% on the Right on the Left-Right axis.
Tancredo being a little more capitalistic than Hunter (both capitalists tho).
Buchanan would be where Hunter is, but the difference between the two is that Hunter is pro-war and Buchanan is not.
If Hunter wasn’t pro-war, in my opinion he would be a Buchanan clone, where as Tancredo is a little more capitalistic than Buchanan.
Any thoughts on this political compass?

A Rudy (Republican), Hillary (Democrat), Bloomberg (Independant), Tancredo (Constitution) choice would be nice.
Flyover country would vote for Tancredo and it might be just enough to get him elected.
Bottom line, more Liberals on the general election ballot to split that vote, the greater chance of a conservative like Tancredo could win.

ERIC,
fly over country would probably vote Rudy. They aren’t ready for a MARtian revolt.
Well, if it wasn’t for the Internet I’d say they’d vote Rudy for sure. With the Internet perhaps MSM can’t control them as totally.
