What the heck is he thinking? Even neocon Michelle Malkin knows this is a bad idea.

According to Wikipedia, he was not named campaign manager, but campaign chair, a largely ceremonial position.
Still a bad choice, however.

Would you really consider Malkin a neo-con Filmer? I’ve been visiting her blog for about a year now, and while certainly she is pro-intervention, I wouldn’t put her in the neo-con category.

Both Thompson and Abraham are weak on reducing immigration. In fact, the Americans for Better Immigration (ABI) Reduction Report Card Grades for Thompson and Spencer are identical on every subject. Here are their ABI Grades:
Americans for Better Immigration – Reduction Report Card
Overall Career Grade = C
Subject Grade
Reduce Chain Migration C
Reduce Visa Lottery C-
Reduce Unnecessary Visas F
Reduce Fraud: Refugee & Asylum C-
Reduce Enticement – Illegal Immigration: Amnesties D

Filmer, on what basis do you refer to Michelle Malkin as a neocon?
Filmer on 03 Aug 2007 at 10:06 pm #
Perhaps I am loosely using the term neocon to indicate anyone who is pro-War. One distinction is that neocons focus on the exportation of democracy. I do think there is a segment of the pro-War crowd who could care less about exporting democracy, and just think that intervention and aggression makes us safer. There is a related subset that just seems to hate and have an unreasonable fear of Islam. Perhaps MM better falls into one of the latter categories.
But on what grounds do you question that she is a neocon? The “mainstream” pro-War right’s rhetoric is totally infected with neocon ideas so it all becomes very hard to distinguish.

I don’t think Malkin hates Islam, but she does have a certain fear about it that I believe is well founded. Her reporting on the subject is really great.
You are right about how the majority of the right these days have been influenced greatly by neo-con thinking, though after reading Malkin’s blog for a year I don’t think she’s as influenced by it as, let’s say, Sean Hannity.
Filmer on 04 Aug 2007 at 1:03 pm #
I agree about Hannity.
If MM’s “well founded” fear is something along the lines of Islam is not compatible with the West, then I agree. But the idea that we have to aggressively take the fight to them or else we will all be bowing to Mecca is utterly ridiculous, and that is the way a lot of people frame it.

I was born a Democrat…but the last one I voted for (and the first) was Jimmy Carter. Does that make me a neocon ?
It may have been a Freudian vote, as I spent the next few years in a very relaxed military…led by Jimmah.

By and large,
neocons are
- vehemently pro Israel
- pro perpetual war in the Middle East
- pro globalism and free trade
- pro political correctness
- pro big government
- pro affirmative action
and
- pro open borders (despite what they’re saying for the past few weeks)
